Do you have insomnia? Avoid these foods

A deep and restful sleep is the most important sources of energy in our body. What you eat can avoid insomnia.

Sleep privation, also known as insomnia, is the most destabilizing feeling for our bodies and minds. There are several factors that interfere with the function of sleep, which can either be medication, emotional or even physical origin. To tackle this problem so harmful to our physical and emotional balance, there are some foods you should avoid before bed. Although some of these foods are considered healthy, if eaten at nightfall they can cause agitation and difficulty in sleeping.

You should, for example, avoid fast-food before going to bed: the amount of fat in it stimulates the production of acid in the stomach, causing heartburn. Cereals eaten at night can cause this effect: as there is not enough time for digestion, the result can be heartburn or gas.

Alcoholic beverages should be avoided as much as possible, if you are lying down right away. During sleep, it is metabolized quickly, making you wake up often during the night, and that greatly increases snoring.

We all know that caffeine is one of the worst enemies of sleep as it stimulates the central nervous system – and note that it is present in many products beyond the simple coffee – so we have to be careful with the teas, as well as dark chocolate or energy drinks.

Food with a lot of spices such as curry, chili, or tabasco should be avoided at all costs, if eat them you are likely to take much longer to fall asleep and to have a light sleep.

Green leafy vegetables, for being very diuretics, also should not be consumed at night, as it increases the risk of having to get up several times to go to the bathroom.

Proteins also must be avoided before bedtime. Our digestion becomes 50% slower when we sleep, but will be even slower if we eat proteins shortly before going to bed.
