What should I pack in my maternity bag?

If you’re about to meet your baby, it is best to get well prepared for the journey. Fill your bag with everything you will need.

Obstetricians recommend pregnant women to, calmly, prepare a bag to take to maternity. In order to not forget anything and to make the task easier, you might want to start to gather the essential items for the delivery on with some advance. You must have the maternity bag ready to travel at least two months before the scheduled delivery date. If you can prepare it earlier, even better: like that, unexpected circumstances that may arise will be dealt with.

This bag should contain the items that will be most needed for you and your baby in his or her first few hours. So here is a list of clothing and essential products to both of you.

For mom:

A bathrobe. To make you feel more comfortable during your stay in the hospital.

A bath towel.

Several nightshirts, you may need to change several times.

Thick sanitary pads. Postpartum, women may bleed and the flow may change case to case, and thick sanitary pads can be more comfortable.

XL Underpants to sustain big sanitary towels, panties larger than usual will be required, preferably with high waistband, so you feel comfortable. There are disposable panties that you can throw away as you stop needing them.

nursing bras and nipple shields.

Personal hygiene products. Shower gel, toothpaste, deodorant.

Nipple cream.

Snacks, in case you get hungry at night and water.

For your newborn, either for summer or winter.

Four or five warm bodies.

Four or five Babygro’s.

Two pairs of socks

One or two beanies

Newborn diapers, some of them in cloth.

Diaper change cream

Bath towel.

Child car seat, you can’t leave the hospital without one.

You should make sets of newborn clothes for several days, to ease the task of dressing him. Also remember to cut the labels of new clothes so that they do not bother the baby.

You can always add items you want, do not forget the essential: your personal documents, health insurance cards, pregnancy book and exams that have done during pregnancy.
