Common mistakes when applying sunscreen

The hot weather is upon us and with it comes the imperative need to use a sunscreen daily.

Although this protection must be take 365 days a year, there are a lot of people who choose to protect the skin only when the Sun is more present. Sunscreen, although widely used in the past few years, it continues to be misapplied. These are the most common:

Use it only on the beach

This is still the main mistake made regarding use of sunscreens, being still very much associated with summer and particularly with trips to the beach. The good news is that an increasing number of people is using sunscreen, even if only on the beach, means that they are more sensitive to the dangers that excessive exposure to the Sun. The sunscreen should be used on the beach or in town, whether long or short daily exposure to the Sun.

Old products

If someone tell you that you can use a sunscreen from the past year, better not believe it. Sunscreens have expiration date, generally 12 months, after that, they fail to fulfill its function of protecting skin from the Sun. Moreover, the heat of the beach may reduce its expiration date. it does not mean that it will damage your skin or cause allergies, it means that it may fail to protect you.

Leave it under the Sun on the beach

After applying the sunscreen, you must close it well and get it out of the Sun, keeping it in a bag, in the shade.

Apply it on the beach

Most people still do this error. The protective effects of sunscreen are not immediate. You must wait half an hour before you can start to benefit from its protection. Until there, it is the same to be exposed to the Sun without any protective filter. If you have forgotten to apply it at home, stay in the shade until the cream begins to produce the expected effects.

Excessive exposure to the Sun

You can´t get “toasted” under the Sun just because you used sunscreen. These products don’t protect us 100% of the Sun. The rules for sun exposure need to be respected even with sunscreen.

Lower the protection degree when you´re tan

As the summer goes and the golden tone starts to appear, most people low the sunscreen degree. You should not do it. Every time you expose yourself to the Sun, especially outside the recommended hours for a less harmful exposure, your skin is assaulted, so you might want to always use a high UVA and UVB protection index, in order to better protect yourself, regardless of your tan.
