When your child doesn’t want to go to school

What if your child suddenly has no desire to go to school? And if going to school to become a nightmare? Learn everything you can do to help the young.

Source of many changes able to get children and adults anxious, the school can be the scapegoat for other problems. Or not. Depending on the age and stage the child is, sometimes they refuse to go to school. When it happens, you need to try to understand the origin of the refusal.

First, try to talk with your kid, and quietly trying to figure out the reasons why he or she doesn’t want to attend school. Don’t yell at them, don’t threaten to ground if they continue to resist, nor promise gifts so they change attitude.

Listen carefully and not underrate their suffering or the reasons for not wanting to go to school. Think about what’s going on at home, if there is any situation that may be the spark of the refusal to go to school, as separations, deaths of loved ones, birth of siblings, that make the child feel insecure, not wanting to leave the home safety.

Talk with their teachers and the school board, trying to find out if they’ve noticed a change in your child behavior in the classroom or on the playgrounds, or if they have revealed difficulties or sudden disinterest in learning. Do not discard the chance of your child being victim of bullying by the other children.

Know that in early stages or in transition, there may be a greater rejection of the child about school. Also following the holiday periods, when the children stay many days at home, a rehabilitation period may be required to get the child back on school tracks.

Introduce appealing and logical reasons why they must attend classes and try to include them in the preparation of everything that relates to school: school supplies organization, preparing snacks, extra-curricular activities, and so on.

If the refusal to go to school persists, and also tantrums, it is best to seek the help of a professional who can better analyze the child and understand the real reasons behind this behavior.
